Pupusas

Ingredients

  • 3 Cups Masa Harina
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 3/4 Cups warm Water
  • 1 Cup shredded Mozzarella
  • 1 Cup refried beans
  • 2 tsp. vegetable oil
Directions

  1. Combine masa harina, salt and warm water in a bowl 
  2. Knead until smooth dough forms. 
  3. Let rest for 10 minutes
  4. Divide dough into 12 balls
  5. Use thumb to make an indentation and fill with tablespoon of beans, cheese or mixture
  6. Pinch dough together to cover filling 
  7. Flatten by hand into 4 inch disk about 1/4th inch tick
  8. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat
  9. Fry pupusas for 3 minutes per side, until golden brown
  10. Serve with cortida (Salvadoran slaw)
